Diana Douglas Memorial Scholarship
Carol Dominique said it was a joy to watch daughter Diana Douglas with young children.
“They just flocked to her,” she said.
Ms. Douglas mentored many of the young women she taught at Johnston Community College, and a scholarship now carries her name in the school of Early Childhood Education, Mrs. Dominique said.
“At the memorial service, so many single mothers said they were trying so hard to work and go to school that they considered quitting until she talked them into staying,” she said.
Ms. Douglas, who also played bells and sang in church with her husband, ran a day care before getting a degree online and teaching at JCC.
Her parents, Gene and Carol Dominique, contribute to the scholarship to remember her birthdays or Christmas.
Mrs. Dominique said she hopes the scholarships, intended for second-year students with at least 30 credit hours, will help some other young women in the future.
